Exhibiting at at the Red Store in Lerryn is makes one slow down and work to the rhythm of the water and the tides. This beautiful wooden boat was moored just out the gallery window - a perfect subject for a sketch or painting.. I have chosen the odd composition cropping of most of the boat. . This is a strong tradition in my favourite form of art - Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Where objects are cropped or jutt into the picture, strong diagonals divide the composition. These elements give a snapshot, a glimpse out of the corner of the eye, a suggestion of transition, giving movement in a picture where there may initially seem none.
