Stergann - Starlight (Original)
At Cadgwith the boats are driven onto the beach, a hook is attached to the prow and age old winding gear hauls the boat to a safe position ready to unload it's catch. This is watercolour on paper with an airbrushed background. Part of my Hiroshige Homage Collection; in the style of Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints. Hiroshige is my favourite artist, Ukiyo-e my favourite style. The fading backgrounds, the strong diagonals, vibrant colours and natural themes are all part of the allure of this style of art. The red banner would traditionally contained a poem or proverb. Here I have adapted this to writing the title of the painting in Cornish. 'Stergann' is Cornish for 'Starlight' the name of the boat. The symbol bottom right is my ‘kakihan’ - my Japanese style signature, stamped on completion of each piece.
