Lostwithiel Church Steeple - Indian Yellow & Red
The unusually view point, with the image sliced in half with a sharp diagonal is a very Japanese, Ukiyo-e composition. Japanese woodblock prints of the 1750's went onto influence poster and comic book art. This is the origin of the abstract idea of adding 'false' colour to a familiar view in this series of artworks.
I have taken a photograph, reduced the image to black and white and then printed it out onto cartridge paper. 2 stencils are cut; one in the shape of the building and one the shape of the background/sky. The building shaped stencil is placed over the building of digital print and the blue of the sky airbrushed on. The process is reversed for the colours on the building.
Although the process can be repeated, each piece is an original.
